It\u2019s something I share because it works.<\/p>\n<p>I originally heard the advice from marketing guru Seth Godin. Among many things, he&#8217;s known for observing that when it comes to getting people\u2019s attention, &#8220;bizarre&#8221; ideas are more successful than boring ones. This must be leveraged by financial advisors, in our continuously crowded space.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a crucial excerpt from one of Seth&#8217;s TEDTalks:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Consumers don\u2019t care about YOU at all. They just don\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>Part of the reason is they got way more choices than they used to, and way less time. <strong>And in a world where we have too many choices and too little time, the obvious thing to do is just ignore stuff.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And my parable here is: You\u2019re driving down the road and you see a cow and you keep driving. &#8216;Cuz you\u2019ve seen cows before. Cows are invisible. Cows are boring.<\/p>\n<p>Who\u2019s gonna stop, pull over, and say \u201cOo look! A cow!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-4412\" src=\"https:\/\/www.blueleaf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/purple-cow.png\" alt=\"purple cow\" width=\"176\" height=\"212\" \/><span style=\"color: #9d09c2;\">But <strong>if the cow was purple<\/strong> you\u2019d notice it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The thing that\u2019s gonna decide what gets talked about, what gets purchased, what gets built is: Is it remarkable? And remarkable is a really cool word because we think it just means \u2018neat\u2019 but it also means \u2018worth making a remark about\u2019\u2026<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Take this. Run with it. Be a purple cow in a field of black and white ones.<\/p>\n<p>If you think you\u2019re already a purple cow, but look around and see other purple cows just like you, find a thing that turns you into a green donkey. Or a pink bear.
